CURE GABA-A invites you to join us for two milestone events in 2025, the inaugural European CURE GABA-A Conference in Lisbon, Portugal and the third annual CURE GABA-A Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
As a global patient advocacy organization, CURE GABA-A is dedicated to accelerating scientific research and driving the development of effective treatments for GABAAR-related disorders.
We are honored to be joining two organizations we deeply admire, SLC6A1 Connect and SynGAP Research Fund, for a powerful and collaborative weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. These foundations have set the standard for excellence in rare epilepsy advocacy, and we are incredibly grateful to them for graciously welcoming us to hold our CURE GABA‑A Family & Scientific Conference in the same venue, during the same time. Their leadership, generosity, and commitment to community continue to inspire us. Together, we’re creating an unforgettable experience that fosters shared learning, deeper connection, and meaningful progress for our overlapping patient communities.
What to Expect at a CURE GABA-A Conference?
CURE GABA-A conferences bring together families, researchers, clinicians, and industry leaders from around the world who share one goal, accelerating treatments and cures for GABAAR-related disorders.
Scientific Sessions
Hear the latest research on GABAAR biology, preclinical models, biomarkers, and emerging therapeutic approaches, including gene therapy, protein replacement, and precision medicine. Presentations are led by top neurologists, geneticists, and biotech innovators working directly on GABAAR disorders.
Family & Caregiver Connections
Families have the chance to meet others living with GABAAR-related disorders, share stories, and learn practical tools for daily care.
Global Collaboration
You’ll meet international scientists and advocates who are building the global GABAAR network.
Panels & Open Discussions
Interactive Q&A sessions and roundtables allow families and researchers to connect directly, ask questions, and exchange ideas. Everyone’s voice matters here.

2025 Inaugural European Conference Recap
The first-ever CURE GABA‑A European Conference was held in Lisbon, Portugal, on August 28–29, 2025, marking a key milestone in the global movement to advance understanding and treatment of GABAAR-related disorders. Hosted at the Vila Galé Ópera Hotel, the event brought together researchers, clinicians, families, and rare disease advocates from across Europe and beyond. The program featured two tracks: a family day, in collaboration with SLC6A1 Europe, focused on education, support, and community-building; and a scientific day, which showcased the latest developments in GABA‑A research, including variant interpretation, emerging therapies, outcome measures, and pathways to clinical trials. Speakers included leading experts from institutions such as Stanford University, the University of Melbourne, and the Danish Epilepsy Centre. Participants were also invited to contribute to the CURE GABA‑A Biorepository, strengthening research through shared biospecimens. With a uniquely intimate setting and cross-disciplinary engagement, the conference laid the groundwork for future international collaboration and progress toward targeted treatments.
Join Other Passionate Experts and Caregivers for an Interactive Day of Learning
We’re hosting a conference to bring together people from all corners of the rare disease world, researchers, clinicians, regulators, and everyone in between, to chat about new research opportunities for the CURE GABA-A community.
Our goal is to map out the next steps for designing translational treatments for GABAAR treatments. We’re expecting a great mix of GABAAR caregivers, researchers, and others who are involved in rare diseases and are curious about the latest science and regulatory updates that could help with developing GABAAR therapies.
Networking & Blood Collection
CURE GABA-A caregivers and patients are invited to connect with other families and contribute to research by donating blood and biosamples to the CURE GABA-A Biorepository, housed within the COMBINEDBrain network.
