European Conference Recap

The inaugural CURE GABA‑A European Conference took place on August 28–29, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal, marking a major milestone in the global effort to advance research and care for GABAAR (GABA‑A receptor-related) disorders.

Hosted at the Vila Galé Ópera Hotel, the two-day event brought together families, clinicians, researchers, and rare disease advocates for a collaborative exchange of knowledge and strategy. Day one featured a family-focused program organized in partnership with SLC6A1 Europe, offering educational sessions and community-building activities tailored to caregivers.

The second day delivered a rich scientific agenda, including presentations on GABAAR variant characterization, preclinical and gene therapy approaches, outcome measures for clinical trials, and strategies to attract industry engagement. Participants were also invited to contribute to the CURE GABA‑A Biorepository, supporting future translational research. With a dual-track format, intimate attendance, and built-in networking events, the conference fostered meaningful connections between the scientific community and affected families.
